There is another difference between Win and Mac that illustrates why. The Mac's menubar is right on the top edge of the screen, so you can just throw the mouse up there and it will hit the edge of the screen and stop, and you can immediately click on the item you want. Windows' windows all have a title bar over the menubar, so you have to be fairly precise to select a menu, making Win users generally slower to select menu items. The advantage of having a window maximized to cover the whole screen becomes apparent when you try to grab the scrollbar. With windows you just throw the mouse to the right edge of the screen and it stops, with Mac if you do that and there is even a little sliver of space on the right, you click through to some other app and lose your window. I can't count how many times I've done that. I reaaaallly reaaaaly wish there was a quick way to align the right edge of the window to the right edge of the screen. I know I could use the scroll wheel (/ball), but often I just want to grab the scroll control and yank it downwards real fast.
